A mass airflow sensor is used to measure the mass of air flowing in to the engine on spark ignited gasoline engines with electronic fuel-injection. The air mass volume is required for the engine control unit (ECU) to calculate the correct fuel amount to the engine. The Air is changing its density with air-pressure in the atmosphere. In automotive applications, air density varies with the ambient temperature, altitude and weather conditions, therefore this Air Mass Sensor is a perfect application for a combustion engine.
how to choose the correct mass air flow sensor ?
before buying the maf sensor, it is very important that you check the oem part number of your vehicle´s maf sensor. for that, you need to open the hood and locate the sensor; usually is near the air filter or bolted to the air filter housing. some sensors have a label with the part number.
the maf part number is embossed on same maf housing, not in the sensor. you do not need to remove the sensor from the housing. please note that some vehicles may use up to 3 different part numbers. that means that the compatibility table is not 100% acurate.
